If it’s peace and tranquillity you are looking for then Cairo is NOT the place to spend your few precious days off! The impressive capital city has a lot to offer residents of Sinai. First of all there is the obvious, the thousands of years of history with the sights of the Pyramids at Giza and the Egyptian Museum amongst the many attractions. Then there is of course the other attraction that is seriously lacking in Sinai…Shopping.

Just an hour up the coast from the bright lights of Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab’s vibe couldn’t feel more different. Despite the last couple of years seeing the sanitisation of the town’s promenade to make it frighteningly like Naama’s, it still maintains a small town feel with an abundance of coffee shops and beach cafes to spend your days relaxing and just watching them pass slowly by.

Mention El Gouna to most people who live on Sinai as a possible weekend getaway destination, most haven’t been and would probably dismiss it as being too far for just a couple of days.

If it’s a bit isolation and tranquility you are looking for then Nuweiba could be just the ticket. Located 2 hours north of Sharm, 1 hour North of Dahab and 1 hour south of Taba it’s pretty easy for everyone to get to wherever in Sinai it is you live.

Again, here you can find yourself a room at the Hilton or you can lose yourself for a few days at one of the area’s beach camps or smaller hotels which will not only be a lot cheaper but will make you feel you are a world away from your troubles. Click here for Nuweiba photos

If you live and work somewhere a little more out in the sticks like Nuweiba or Taba you may find that every now and then you might like to get away to the bright lights of somewhere like Sharm el Sheikh. Here you’ll notice everything is a little more expensive but then you have a wider choice of restaurants and bars than in the smaller towns.

Located right at the border of Egypt and Israel Taba is in a unique position of being able to observe four countries from one point. You can stand on the beach in Egypt and to your left see Israel, across to Jordan and down to Saudi. The coast line here is stunning, the vivid red of the mountains contrasting with the cobalt blue of the sea lying against the backdrop of Jordan’s own dramatic coastline.
