The same goes for accommodation. Because most hotel beds are pre-booked from overseas there is a little choice for walk in guests. It is just a case of asking around. In the centre of town its worth trying the Camel Hotel, a small divers hotel right in the thick of things…from bar to bed in less than 5 minutes. There is also the Hilton Fayrouz (Tel: + 20 (0) 69 3 600136) right on the sea front who should probably do a resident rate and just a bit further up the coast, the Hyatt is perfect if you’re looking for a bit of luxury during your break. The Hyatt (Tel. +20 (0) 69 360 1234) boasts the fabulous Sala Thai restaurant, stunning views across Middle Garden, its house reef, and pampering in its top rate spa facilities. If those are a little out of your price range then there are still a few budget places, though maybe a little out of town. You could try the Sharks Bay Camp (Tel:+ 20 (0) 69 3 600 942) which is about 15 minutes taxi ride from town and still offers sea view huts for €20 with shared bathroom and €30 with private bathroom.

If you live and work somewhere a little more out in the sticks like Nuweiba or Taba you may find that every now and then you might like to get away to the bright lights of somewhere like Sharm el Sheikh. Here you’ll notice everything is a little more expensive but then you have a wider choice of restaurants and bars than in the smaller towns.
